In need of help

Help! I need ppl to grp with on planetside :D So far I've teamed with Ivan and Kraken there, and have seen UK Avenger there too (we're on the european server, which is called Werner (and for some reason now comes up as a US west server???)), but we need some class team players to team up with. If we get enuff we can even start an Outfit (thats what they call clans there).

Remember! The New Comglomerate needs you! :D

Btw if ur ever looking for me on there, I'm either Deadmedic or Deadmax. Absolutely class game, didn't like getting run over by a tank tho, sort of got a bit flat :D

Oh, one last thing if u ever do go on there, don'y let Kraken drive. He thinks the Harrasser assault buggy got wiings and tries launching it off cliffs :D hehehehe

I might try it as an alternative to CS to be honest wot I want to know is..is it like bf1942 and power hungry do you have to have the latest gfx card and 2.9 gig cpu to play it? I have played bf1942 online and it can be a bit jumpy sometimes..any info would be greatly appreciated.. oh and if you were in a clan would yo ube expected to pay for server admin privilidges also adding to the cost? as I could justify to teh wife paying ten quid a month but pushing it at twenty...lol

U don't need broadband m8, I'm on ISDN and I play it ok (well I die lots, but thats nothing unusual for me) :D

Planetside is a MMOFPS set in the future. A terran republic expeditionary force landed on this planet and found some alien technology. The wormhole they used to get there collapsed, and the terran forces split into 3 factions.

Terran Republic - These guys are hard core military. Even tho they've lost any contact with home, their determined to keep this planet for them.

New Conglomerate - These guys decided that they no longer wanted to live under the oppression of the Terran Republic any more and especially now the wormholes gone, they want to make the world independant.

Vanu Soveriegnty - The guys believe the human race has wandered off course and will be only able to get back on track by fulling embracing the alien technology found on the planet. Nut jobs but have kick arse weaponry.

The game itself is about £25 (thats what I paid for it from Gameplay), and cost 12.99 USD (US dollars) per month to play (this works out about £8 per month at current exchange rates), and u get the first month free to see if u like it.

All characters are kept on the server (which is run by Sony) so chances of any cheats going on is minimal. Also u get to take part in huge battles to take facilties etc involving everything from infantry to huge drop aircraft that para drop its passengers into the middle of a fight. The more battles u do the more experienced ur char becomes, and the more stuff he can do. They do this by awarding experience points for each enemy killed/base taken which in turn will rise u battle levels and allow u to become competent on more and more equipment. For each battle rank u rise u gain 1 certifacation point to spend on widening ur skill base (u start off with 4 so u can get some good stuff straight off :D)

Best thing to do is to go to http://planetside.station.sony.com/ and have a read up on it.

Min specs btw is 1 gig cpu, 256 ram, and a 64 meg gfx card.

All admin is done by sony m8, there is no clan servers. There is about 5 servers up at the moment, all of which can support several hundred players at once. "Clans" in the game are basically together to have fun and group with each other to slaughter the enemy. :D

Using single line (64k) and my ping generally varies from about 80 to 160 depending on how full it is. Don't really notice it in game tho, except at peak times when there's close on 100 ppl in the base. Sort of grinds then. :D

Btw Ivan Deadmedic is BR4 (almost 5) with medium assault, and medical and advanced medical certs, and Deadmax is BR5 with falcon and sparrow MAX certs and medium assault cert for backup. Just fyi so u know what my chars are capable of should u need one of them :D

Btw think we might have Reaper joining us too. He was watching me this evening getting stuck in to some vanu and he was well impressed :D

I try to avoid prime hours (between 8pm - 10pm), or failing that don't go to the areas where the zerg are. Try some other islands with a bit less action :D

a) No, not really, its about taking facilities as well as combat.

b) Well, if you're a girlyman, go TR, if you have problems admitting that you are a girlyman go VS, but if you are totally hardcore, and you do indeed know the score, then NC is the only choice for you.

BTW I hope you been practicing you Gal landings cause my comp cant take much more lol. Just to let you all in, Muon whilst trying to land a Galaxy (troop transport plane) with me at one of the gun stations, manage to clip a wall and flip the gal onto its roof and land upside down on the base wall, the game then bugged out and I found myself in the middle of the ocean drowning and all my maps became fookered, had to restart my comp lol. Admittedly this wasnt his fault was a bug in the game, but still funny :cool:

Its good but it's not CS. You couldnt just play this and leave CS, the stuff thats missing from PS, CS has. So both required :cool:

CS is quiet small scale action, with stealth and accuracy as ur allies. PS is all out war :D

Btw Buch, what I meant about a bit less action was goingf to fights with only roughly 20-30 combatants in total, rather than the "zerg" which can easily reach over 50 combatants a side (and don't forget there are 3 sides in planetside lol). U actually get more xp in the smaller combats too as there's less people to take a share of it :D

Looks like that crash has affected the web character info as well, we are both stuck at Jun 2nd. Maybe we should contact Sony about it?

Oh no! Please don't tell me that! I encountered a bug today too. Manged to park the ANT I was driving on the inside wall of the invisibility shield of an AMS. Was not impressed as I watched my ANT floating in mid air. It was full too :(

How do u communicate in PS?? presumably by text but is there an inbuilt mic function? or would you need to use an external program, like teamspeak etc?

Normally its just text but there is an inbuilt voice program if u want to use it :D Someone has to host the voice chat, and then invites the ppl into the chat. I've been in one once but prefered to type (my mic is knackered again, and no bugger would understand me anyway :D).

There is also a quick voice commands button which is something like the radio commands in CS, except it also brings up text in the text box for squad members that are out of hearing range.

I assume that the monthly payment u make to be able to play teh game on the servers, would mean that u need to pay it on consecutive months in order for the server to remember your status and details? ie. if you didn;t want to pay for a month or 2 and then did a few months later, you'd be back to square one? (ie at the base level again)??

Also i have been wondering about the building up of experience points etc, surely when new people join, and are very lowly. they will struggle against all these powerful dudes with their tough armour, and cars etc... or am i wrong and there is a constant turn over of players. Cos surely as time goes on and ppl have been playing for ages, they will be able to kick the new ppls ass, ie. creating an unlevel playing field??

Not sure on planetside, but if what I've seen from Dark Age, ur account just goes inactive and none of ur characters are deleted. If however ur account is still inactive after a long period of time (6 months+) then they might delete ur characters at that point.

The only difference between a Battle Rank 1 guy and a Battle Rank 20 guy is the amount of stuff the battle rank 20 guy can use. He can still be taken out just as easily. :D Its the same as any fps in that respect, just cos u've been playing for donkeys years, doesn't mean u can't get owned by newbie with a run of good luck :D

They are both pics of me. I am wearing an infil suit, and a pounder grenade launcher. The first is me uncloaked, the 2nd is me cloaked, viewed with DL, from 3rd person.

Basically, I was robbing corpses, looking for grenades. I found one that had a few plasmas, so starting transfering them. Half way through the kit vanished, so I put the one I had in my hand in my primary holster. It then turned into the TR MAX pounder weapon. Which was fun. Reported it to SOE, then went on a mass spree until I felt guilty and ditched it. :)

Depends on what u want to do m8. :D

The first thing I would do is before u spend any certification points run around and examine exery type of terminal and go to the virtual shooting range and testing all the weapons, armour and support stuff there then going to the virtual driving range and driving and flying every vehicle they have there and testing out all the weapon systems each vehicle has. By doing this, you'll be Battle Rank 3 before you fire a gun properly. This will give u 6 total certification points to spend (4 initial +2 to for the extra battle ranks).

Below are some ideas for you to work off initially.

Grunt char - Medium Assault (3 cert points), Reinforced Armour (3 cert points)
Stealth char - Infiltration Suit (2 cert points), Hacking (3 cert points)
Sniper char - Medium Assault (3 cert points), Sniping (3 cert points)
Medic char - Medical (3 cert points), Medium Assault (3 cert points)
Engineer char -Engineering (3 cert points), Medium Assault (3 cert points)
MAX suit char - Falcon or Scattercannon MAX (don't bother with Sparrow its pretty poo) (3 cert points), Medium Assault (3 cert points)
Pilot - Mosquito or Galaxy (3 cert points), Medium Assault (3 cert points)
Fighter Pilot - Reaver (4 cert points)
Driver - Vehicle (depends what vehicle u want, but most cost 3 cert points), Medium Assault (3 cert points).

As for what ppl are specializing in, I can only speak for my chars.
Deadmedic is a combat medic with the following certs atm - Medium Assault, Heavy Assault, Medical, Reinforced Armour, Basilisk.
Deadmax is a MAX suit char with the following certs atm - Medium Assault, Falcon MAX, Scattercannon MAX, Sparrow MAX.
Deadstealther is a infiltrator type char with the following certs - Infiltration Suit, Wraith, Hacking, Advanced Hacking.

Just spend your cert points on what you think looks cool, you can always unspend them later. Take some time to get to know the game before you worry about specialising, you'll take all the fun out of it :)

OK lads.

Having spoke to a tech support monkey from SOE for 45 mins, I need to warn you all about those gamecrashes where you end up in the sea, or simply crashing PS. You may find that you will be unable to log back in to Werner. Permanently.

This has happened to me, and from the look of the PS forum, hundreds of other people.


We are aware of the issue where some players are getting locked out of one specific server after a series of various events. We are diligently working on this problem to have it fixed for you as soon as possible and will update you when the fix is in place. Thank you for your patience and we are sorry for the inconvenience.


That was from a week ago. Still no fix. Be careful out there in PS land, or you'll invoke the wrath of the crashgods.

Yay, the game arrive this morning, and i'll be installing it tonight after i get home.
I've been having a sneaky read of the manual here at work and can't wait.

Once u get a vechicle, assuming u have the necessary skills, can u build up a store of vechicles? or do u just need to pick one up in the outfitting ares?
What are the outfits plans atm, an all round versitle team, or are they concentrating on attacking deffending etc... would be good to mix it up a bit.
tbh, i wont really know what i'm really on about till i start playing.

For u guys who have built up several char's is that so that u just start a game as which ever character the outfit needs for the particular task is needed? Is it easy to switch chars ingame or do u need to log out and in again etc??

It isn't easy to change chars in game (which can be a pain tbh). I have found that I have to log out of the game for roughly 10 minutes, before re-entering with a new one. On the bright side tho, if u go Link Dead (ur 2 hour ISP cutoff kicks in etc etc) or crash out of the game, u still remain in the squad for a short while, so if u quickly log back on, u'll still be in the same squad as before.

Personally I have made different characters to explore the different roles without actually badly gimping one. When u consider how many certs u need to do a particular role effectively, it is by far easier just to start a char to fill that role rather than try and add them to the one char. I know u can unlearn certs but u can only do one skill per day, so a radical alteration could take days to sort, and then u might not like it and then spend days getting ur char back to the way he was. Personally, making a new char is far easier imo, that way if u don't like that type of char, u can simply delete it :D

I now have, after last nights first encounter, have 3 cert points to spend.
I have already got medium armour (reinforced exo) and have got the medium weapons one.
I was asking yesterday what the squad needed to be come more rounded, as we seemed short of hackers, medics etc and thought i could specialise in one of these if needed.
But i also would like to be able to drive something as thats cool :D the choice is too great and i cant decide what i want to do etc...
time will tell, i'll go and have a look in more detail at what i can do and have another visit to the training areas...

We did some roaming around and cap'd a few things. I nearly have CR1 so it would be cool if i could invite ppl to a squad to let me get that level as i only need a few xp points to get it...

No u don't get cert points for CR but u do get some well cool command abilities for the later Command Ranks (these should be coming in soon). Stuff like EMP blast and global strike and other silly little things like that.

Their also supposed to be introducing platoons soon (3 squads able to work together for base taking and xp) which will be cool. :D
